Ask Liz! > Understanding multiple SPF's
To my understanding it doesn't add up..
spf 15 + spf 15 = spf15
spf 15 + spf 30 = spf 30 (you'd still be getting the spf with higher number)

Hi Maybelle! I think it's better that you invest on the higher SPF facial moisturizer. I've stumbled upon this article -- http://www.webmd.com/healthy-beauty/features/sunscreen-and-your-makeup-routine -- as your question got me all curious. Thanks for posting this question! Wouldn't have known as well! Have a great day!:-)

Hi Lian - thanks for taking the time to reply and giving your point of view.
Hi Yani - thanks for the link! I've been meaning to ask this question several days ago. I hope Liz and the other readers can provide their answers or opinions as well.

I agree with Lian, I don't think SPF's add up, I guess you'll just get the higher one though.
when I was a kid, my mom kept on saying that I should put spf protection on my face because it prevents early skin aging. Now that I'm older, I definitely agree with her, after all Mother knows best. haha
I also this korean makeup tutorial that blends foundation + spf lotion + illuminator, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve5SSx5zrlI
I think I have also seen Lisa Eldridge do the same by combining certain products

@Maybelle As usual, everybody beat me to the punch haha! Love it when everyone shares what they know!
And they're quite right: SPF doesn't add up. Heard this from a dermatologist. Whatever is the higher SPF is the SPF you get.

Thank you, thank you girls!!! I'll never look at SPF the same way again. I learned plenty of useful information here and I hope the other readers did too. I'm glad I posted the question on Liz's Project Vanity.

Hi Liz! I just want to understand how the SPF's on multiple products work. If I use a facial moisturizer with SPF 15 and then layer it with a facial powder with SPF 15, does that mean that I'm wearing a total of SPF 30 on my face? I just want to make sure if my understanding is correct. If this is the case, then I can sparingly use a more expensive facial moisturizer with SPF 30 and then simply use the moisturizer-powder combination more frequently and I will have the same degree of protection either way. Thanks in advance for the clarification.
